Myths and narratives are two things that we use in our world with or with out knowing it. When i think of myth i think of something that i or no one can explain and has to i guess you can say a wild guess how it came to be. And for the narrative part it has things to back its information up to lead on to the big picture sort of like a story. Every culture has a myth. Such as the mayas made us think since they ended the calender on 2012 that in that same year the world would come to an end. To be honest we don't know if that is true. Maybe they just ran out of ides or maybe they just ran out of what to think because they didn't think they would last that long and didn't think we would have a world like we do now. Yet we are not the ones to say if that is true till we wwait and see. (i truely and hope this doesn't happen because i do want to get married some day lol)
Or lets say in our world poeple say many myths on how Mexicans believe in all this nonsense with the ghost of their so long family members that are not here today. As the myth goes on on November 1st it is to be said that you should leave a candle lit and never answer your door in the middle of the night. And if you do well the a ghost or skeleton would give you a candle shaped as a bone means that it would be your turn to give up your life. All though some people do believe in that but that is just a myth. It really doesnt happened. Just an old story that people like to scare their kids and it goes on to their kids and so forth. Many cultures have many myths that can just scare or maybe even predict the future with an unknowing reason. pretty cray if you think about it.

I understand your point of view, and I agree. I geuss every different person, culture, whatever, has its own idea of a narrative or myth. Guess it just mainly deppends on how the culture works, only then will we understand the myths and so forth. Every differnt myth or narrative has its function.Very good blog... like your perspective on the subject.
ReplyDeleteDesi...I agree with your perspective on this issue. I also think that myths do not need any proof because they do not have any. They are merely saying or predictions that have been passed on from one generation to another. So people go on and believing them and pass them on to their children. Every culture has its own myths and some think that it is important that these myths be passed on to the younger generations.
ReplyDeleteAlso, a myth legitimizes itself and makes itself believable just in the telling. We believe the person who is telling the myth and also start believing in it. These myths then become like traditions and on one is going to argue against them. SO they are practically known as facts and in a way have to be accepted.
I would have liked you to talk a little bit more about narratives and use quotes from Postmodernism. I liked how you used examples of myths to prove your point.
I really enjoyed reading your blog. GOOD JOB :)
Heyyy heyy heyyy;
ReplyDeletewell first off-nice job. I totally understand where you are coming from. I liked how you used outside examples, i don't know if they effect you are not, but they sure did make you point a lot stronger. But you used the word "think" a lotttt. Hmm..think..what does it truly mean? But yeahh..that's just something to leave you thinkin..
Well peace out :)
Your statement "Every culture has a myth" is very true in my perspective also. I think every culture has its own myth to express itself and to attract people of that culture back to what majority wishes to believe in. Then there are myths that come from two or even three different cultures combined (this categorizes the mayas and yourself). These stories become crazier to understand like you said above. It takes careful evaluation of others thoughts to understand what in the world they really really want us to know. These multi-origin myths originate from those who are multi-originated I guess. The more we blend into another culture, the more different we become as an individual. Now that's weird even to me.
ReplyDeleteNice job, I really like your choice of words because I can understand them better! Keep up the good work.
